Welcome to Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, where Spanish, Mexican, and Southwestern (American) influences blend into one of Walt Disney World’s most sophisticated moderate-tier stays. We’ve stayed here three times, once as a couple and twice with family.
Second to Caribbean Beach Resort, this is our favorite Disney resort and a go-to for our family. Coronado Springs checks many boxes, whether you’re planning a romantic getaway or a multigenerational family vacation with all the Disney perks.

About Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
Coronado Springs is a moderate resort in the Animal Kingdom resort area.
While technically in the same tier as Caribbean Beach Resort, its atmosphere is more resort-luxe than family-fun.
Also, this is Walt Disney World’s official convention hotel, which means fewer Mickey ears and more conference badges and sangria by the lake.
It’s also the only moderate hotel with a fitness center. Gyms are usually reserved for Disney’s deluxe-tier hotels. Here you can find free weights, dumbbells, Peloton bikes, and a few treadmills. While not extensive, it covers the basics for a good workout.
How about breakfast? Is it included?
Although breakfast is not included, there plenty of dining options, including several on-site cafes, such as Cafe Rix.
Pro Tip: We recommend placing an Instacart order and having groceries delivered to your room (the resort charges a delivery fee + tip) or grocery shopping to grab breakfast items and snacks.

This resort is gorgeous!
Its theme celebrates diverse cultures in Mexico and the Southwest – think mosaic tilework, shimmering towers reflected on the lake at night, and palm trees swaying over hammocks on sandy lakeside beaches. If you can, catch the early sunrise while strolling around the lake; it’s stunning!
While there are plenty of amenities for kids of all ages, this resort leans more towards the adult experience.
As a couple, we spent plenty of evenings:
- Relaxing with a margarita
- Swinging in beach hammocks
- Catching movies under the stars
- Roaming the lakefront jogging trail
- Playing chess and cornhole
While Coronado Springs doesn’t scream Disney, it whispers it in all the right ways with friendly and accommodating cast members, and easy access to the parks, without the over-the-top character decor of some other Disney properties.
The Layout
Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort is big, like, really big.
It’s the second-largest resort at Walt Disney World, with nearly 2,500 rooms spread across multiple villages.
Shaped like a diamond, this resort centers around Lago Dorado, a picturesque lake that serves as a focal point.
Surrounding the lake are the resort’s three distinct “villages”: Casitas, Ranchos, and Cabanas, each with its own design and vibe.
The layout of Coronado Springs isn’t just beautiful — it’s functional too.
The bridges act as shortcuts, making walking from one side of the resort to the other easy, reducing long strolls, especially important when you’re trying to catch the next bus.
With peaceful water views and plenty of lush greenery, even mid-day resort breaks can feel like mini escapes.
Over the years, we’ve stayed in all of the villages (except Grand Destino Tower), which each offer:
- Standard rooms with two queen beds perfect for up to four people
- Lots of counter space and a large desk area for getting work done
- A barn-style sliding door separates the sink from the sleeping area
- A bathroom with double vanities and plenty of storage space
- Under-bed storage, a safe, a mini-fridge, a Keurig stocked with Joffrey’s K-cups, and a flat-screen TV
Note: You cannot choose the village; one is assigned to you at check-in. However, you can call ahead to make requests, but there are no guarantees.
For example, in some years, cast members accommodated our request for connecting rooms, while others could not place us on the ground floor.
Coronado Springs Villages: What’s the Difference?
Coronado Springs is divided into three distinct “villages” — Casitas, Ranchos, and Cabanas, each offering location benefits and its own aesthetic.
1. Cabanas
Vibe: Beachy, tropical, relaxed
Design: Inspired by the coastal regions of Mexico
Best For: Families who want to be near the main pool and a shorter walk to the main amenities.
- Located close to the Dig Site — the resort’s main pool complex with a waterslide, kiddie pool, and playground.
- Some buildings are closer to Gran Destino Tower, the main lobby, dining, and transportation.
2. Casitas
Vibe: Urban elegance with Spanish colonial flair
Design: Modeled after Mexican cities and haciendas
Best For: Guests attending conferences or those who want to be near Bus Stop 2 (the first bus stop on most routes)
- Closest to the Convention Center and fitness center
- Features tranquil courtyards and fountains — lovely for quiet morning walks
- Multi-story buildings with elevator access
Recently, we stayed in a Casitas 4 room on the 4th floor.
We loved hanging out at the nearby pool and the proximity to Bus Stop #2 (the first stop on the bus loop). Although we weren’t big fans of staying on the upper levels, there are elevators.
Prepare to get your steps in, though, because you’ll be far from Gran Destino Tower, which houses the Lobby, Concierge, Bell Services, Valet, and dining options.
Heads up: If you don’t opt in to Bell Services, you will need to haul your luggage from the lobby to your room. Ask for a complimentary luggage cart to make things easier.
3. Ranchos
Vibe: Desert-themed, rustic, peaceful
Design: Reflects the ranch-style architecture of northern Mexico
Best For: Guests who want a quiet, remote feel with beautiful landscaping
- Farthest from the main lobby and restaurants
- Offers a more secluded, tranquil atmosphere
- Landscaped with rock formations and desert plants
- Usually less foot traffic — great for more extended stays or relaxation seekers
Pools, Recreation & Entertainment
If you are looking for things to do on property, Coronado has many options, like drawing classes, giant lawn games, volleyball, and movies under the stars.
As for pools, don’t miss the Dig Site, the main pool area, open from 10 am to 11 pm.
Its standout features include:
- A 123-foot water slide
- One of the largest hot tubs on Disney property
- Siesta’s Pool Bar, arcade, volleyball court, and playground
The vibe here is lively, especially at night.
Don’t forget the arcade, where you can find racing games, classics like PAC-MAN, a Guardians of the Galaxy pinball, and our all-time favorite, air hockey. Nerf Arcade was a newer game we enjoyed (it really brought out our competitiveness).
Dining
Various dining options are available from grab-and-go meals at the Mercado to elevated feasts at Maya Grill.
Barcelona Lounge
Alcoholic beverages are available from 3 pm to midnight. It’s also a great spot to grab coffee in the morning or escape the sun and lounge around in the A.C.
While there isn’t an on-site Joffrey’s coffee stand, the coffee options here hold up. The perfect pick-me-up before heading to the parks!
Three Bridges Bar & Grill
It’s romantic, open-air, and right on the lake. We loved the laid-back vibe, the perfect ambiance for a sangria or cocktail.
Toledo – Tapas, Steak & Seafood + Dahlia Lounge
Located on the top floor of the 15-story Gran Destino Tower, enjoy surrealist-inspired decor, gorgeous rooftop views of the Disney parks, and the EPCOT fireworks. We’ve never been here, but it’s on our wish list for next time!
Maya Grill
This sit-down Mayan-themed restaurant serves Tex-Mex favorites like fish tacos, fajitas, quesadillas, flan, and more. Reservations are recommended.
El Mercado de Coronado (Quick Service)
Reliable throughout the day, whether hungry for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Grab snacks, candy, rice bowls, burgers, and pizza.
Siesta Cantina
This is the best quick-service dining option on property and has become our go-to for most meals. Highly recommend the shrimp tacos and nachos.
Overall, Coronado Springs offers a variety of food options at various price points. The Spanish-themed menus can feel repetitive after a few days, so try to change things up.
Transportation
Coronado Springs has complimentary bus-only transportation to all four parks, water parks, and Disney Springs. No monorail or Skyliner access. Since this resort has four internal stops, factor this in when planning your schedule, especially for rope drop. For example, it took approximately 25 minutes to get to Magic Kingdom.
