Choosing where to stay at Walt Disney World is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make when planning your trip. This isn’t just about where you’re sleeping. It’s about how quickly you get to the parks, whether you can take a midday pool break without stress, and how your family feels after walking 20,000 steps in the Florida heat.
And with more than 25 Disney resorts to choose from, it’s easy to get stuck in analysis paralysis. For many, the real debate comes down to Moderate vs. Value Disney resorts. Should you book a Value resort or upgrade to a Moderate?
Both keep you inside the Disney bubble (which, trust me, is a huge perk), but they offer very different experiences when it comes to space, amenities, theming, and overall feeling of luxury.
And often the final decision isn’t just about the nightly rate. Your trip length, travel style, season (time of year) and how much time you plan to spend at your resort can make one option a better fit than the other.

Value resorts are Disney’s most affordable on-property hotels, designed for travelers who want the Disney experience while keeping costs lower.
Popular value resorts include:
- Disney’s Pop Century Resort
- Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
- Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort
- Disney’s All-Star Music Resort
- Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort
These resorts feature larger-than-life Disney theming, bright colors, and playful designs that appeal to younger kids. Pricing ranges from $115 – $300 a night.
Value Resort Pros
1. Lower cost
Value resorts typically have the lowest nightly rates on Disney property, which can free up budget for park tickets, dining, and experiences. I’ve seen nightly rates as low as $115 per night with a bounce back offer.
2. Fun theming
Giant Disney characters, colorful buildings, and playful décor make these resorts feel very “Disney.”
3. Great for park-focused trips
If you plan to spend most of your time at the parks, a value resort offers a comfortable place to sleep without paying for extra amenities you might not use.
Value Resort Cons
1. Smaller rooms
Rooms are typically around 260 square feet, which can feel tight for families. Also, most rooms have two double beds.
2. Fewer amenities
Value resorts usually have food courts rather than full-service sit down restaurants and fewer recreation options.
3. Transportation limitations
Most value resorts rely solely on Disney buses for transportation. That means you miss out on other modes of transportation like the Skyliner, monorail, or ferry.
What Are Disney Moderate Resorts?
Moderate resorts offer a step up in comfort, theming, and amenities without reaching the price point of deluxe resorts.
Moderate resorts include:
- Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
- Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
- Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside
- Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter
These resorts often feel more like vacation destinations themselves, with beautiful landscaping, larger pools, and expanded dining options. Pricing ranges from $225 – $400 a night.

Moderate Resort Pros
1. More space
Rooms are typically around 314 square feet, offering noticeably more breathing room than value resorts.
For example, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort 5th sleeper rooms accommodate five guests with two queen beds and a child-size pull down bed. Plus, beds are high enough where you can store your luggage underneath. Lastly, most moderate resort rooms have two queen beds.
3. Better dining
Moderate resorts offer a mix of table-service restaurants, lounges, food courts, and bars in addition to quick-service dining. Some even have an on-side Joffrey’s Coffee.
4. More immersive theming
While value resorts lean playful and bold, moderate resorts often feel more atmospheric and relaxing. For example, Coronado Springs leans into Spanish, Mexican, and American Southwest theming.
5. Expanded recreation
Many moderate resorts feature larger pools, hot tubs, playgrounds, walking trails, and additional activities. Pools at moderate resorts also have slides while pools at value resorts do not.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the biggest differences:

Why Trip Length Matters When Choosing

When deciding between moderate and value resorts, one of the most overlooked factors is how long your trip will be.
If you’re visiting Disney for three or four days, you may spend very little time at your resort. In that case, a value resort can be a smart choice.
But if you’re staying 5+ nights, your resort becomes a bigger part of your vacation, more than a place to rest your head at the end of the night.
You may want time to:
- relax by the pool
- enjoy resort dining
- take midday breaks
- explore the property
In that case, upgrading to a moderate resort can make the entire trip feel more comfortable and enjoyable.
My Favorite Moderate Resorts
After several Disney trips, two moderate resorts stand out for me.
1. Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
I’m obsessed with this Disney property!
Coronado Springs blends Spanish, Mexican, and Southwest influences, creating one of the most beautiful moderate resorts on property.
What I love most about Coronado Springs:
- Stunning lake views
- Walking/running trail around the property
- Little Disney theming (I get enough at the parks)
- Various dining options and bars
- A relaxing, upscale atmosphere
It’s a resort that feels more grown-up while still being family-friendly.
In fact, my family enjoyed it so much that we’ve returned multiple times.
2. Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
This one might surprise you!
Caribbean Beach Resort is another standout moderate resort, especially if you’re looking for convenient transportation options.
This resort features colorful Caribbean-themed villages, white sand beaches, and lush tropical landscaping.
But the biggest perk is its direct access to the Disney Skyliner.
As Kevin pointed out in our podcast episode:
“Staying at a Skyliner resort like Caribbean Beach is a game changer—it’s fast, fun, and makes getting around so much easier.”
The Skyliner provides quick access to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, which can save time and reduce transportation stress during your trip.
For example, you don’t have to fold your single or double stroller (tandem only, front-to-back) to hop on the Skyliner. Simply walk onboard!
Convenience is a form of luxury and that’s what you’re really paying for when you stay on property.
So Which Is Better: Moderate or Value?
The best choice ultimately depends on your priorities.
Choose a Value Resort if:
- You want the lowest possible price
- You plan to spend most of your time at the parks
- Your kids love bold Disney theming
- You’re taking a shorter trip
Choose a Moderate Resort if:
- You want more space and comfort
- You plan to spend time enjoying the resort
- You value better dining and amenities
- You’re staying for a longer trip
- You want less over the top Disney theming
Final Thoughts
Moderate and Value Disney resorts both offer the benefit of staying on property: convenience, transportation, and the magic of the Disney bubble.
But the right choice isn’t always about the lowest price, sometimes it’s about the kind of experience you want to have during your trip.
