1. Start a Disney Travel Fund
Wondering how to save for a Disney vacation? Start here.
Open a dedicated savings account a.k.a. a “Disney Travel Fund.”

In short, a travel fund keeps your Disney trip savings separate, and you’re less tempted to spend it on other non-vacation expenses.
2. Use a High-Yield Savings Account
If you’re setting aside money over a few months or a year, store it in a high-yield savings account. You’ll typically earn more interest (so your money makes you more money).
I house my Disney travel fund with Ally Bank, an online bank with higher interest rates than traditional brick and mortars.
3. Track Your Progress
Use a visual tracker (like a printable coloring sheet or app) to stay motivated. Watching your savings grow overtime keeps the goal exciting and helps the whole family stay involved and encouraged.
4. Round-Up Savings Apps
Use apps like Acorns, Qapital, or Chime that automatically round ups your purchases and stashes the change. You won’t even notice the difference but over a few months, those extra cents can easily fund upgrades, meals, or souvenirs.
5. Bring Back Piggy Banks
Around our house we have several piggy banks we raid right before our Disney trips.
We spend all year adding spare change and small bills.
To celebrate, we count up everything we’ve accumulated and use it to treat ourselves, often on a Disney World splurge we’d really enjoy.
6. Cash Envelope Challenge
Savings challenges are a great way to build new savings habits.
Set a weekly goal of saving $5, $10, $20, or $50, and physically stash that amount in a Disney-themed envelope.
Seeing the money grow feels super rewarding and keeps your savings goals top-of-mind.
7. Cashback Sites & Apps
Use Rakuten when shopping online to earn cashback.
Cash out your rewards and add them to your Disney fund.
Bonus Tip: Stack cashback with Disney gift card purchases for extra savings!
8. Use Work Bonuses and Tax Refunds
If you receive an annual bonus, tax refund, or cash gifts, consider putting a portion (or all) into your travel fund.
These windfalls can make a big dent in paying for vacation expenses and it feels good to use that money for something meaningful.
9. Get Bank Bonuses
In the last three months, I earned $325 without changing my spending or savings habits.
Did you know that banks offer sign-up bonus incentives to new customers who open checking or savings accounts. Keep in mind you’ll have to meet specific eligibility requirements.
Helpful Tip: Combine bank bonuses with high-yield saving accounts to maximize your cash reward and interest earned.
I break down everything you need to know about bank sign up bonuses in this podcast episode.

10. Cut Back Temporarily On Subscriptions
Cancel or pause streaming services, unused subscriptions, or gym memberships for a few months. Redirect that monthly savings into your travel fund instead. For example, cutting back $30/month gets you $360 in a year.
11. Meal Prep & Eat Out Less
Saving for Disney doesn’t always require making sacrifices but sometimes it does.
I know this may sound silly, but cutting down on frivolous expenses really adds up.
Commit to eating out less, skipping happy hours, or brewing your own coffee at home.
Track how much you would have spent and immediately move the difference to your Disney savings account, I call this “reverse budgeting.”
The two most important things to keep in mind here is to 1) be mindful of the sacrifices you are making and 2) immediately take the money you would have spent and transfer it to your Disney travel fund.
12. Pick Up Extra Hours or Overtime
Ask your employer if extra shifts or overtime hours are available.
An additional 5–10 hours a month could cover park tickets or your hotel stay.
Short-term hustle, long-term magic.
13. Start a Side Hustle
If you have a skill or passion, turn it into extra income. Sell digital products, freelance, coach, offer babysitting or pet sitting, or drive for delivery apps.
Channel those earnings straight into your Disney fund.
You’d be surprised how quickly it adds up when you keep your “why” in mind.
14. Buy Discounted Disney Gift Cards
If cash tends to disappear on you, buy Disney gift cards instead. They’re a great way to lock in savings and stay on budget.
Places like Costco, Sam’s Club, and BJs Wholesale often sell Disney gift cards at a discount. If you have a Target RedCard, you can save 5% on all gift card purchases. For example, you might pay $94 for a $100 gift card.
Gift cards can be used for everything at Disney World, from park tickets to food, merchandise, and even your Disney resort stay.
